Wheel throwing & Handbuilding Semester Workshops

$700 per person - 8 weeks - 2 hours

Participants will be introduced to the entire wheel throwing process from raw clay to the final glazed piece. The first seven sessions cover the topics of (but are not limited to) centering, coning and trimming. The last session is dedicated to glazing.

Each workshop has only 6 spaces to ensure quality individual attention can be given to each student.

The next wheel throwing workshop dates are:

  • Thursdays at 7pm commencing March 20th 2025 (full)

  • Sundays at 11am commencing March 23rd 2025 (2/6 spaces left)

8-Week pottery wheel workshop

  • This is a 8 week long semester throwing clay on the wheel workshop course for individuals of all levels of experience. During the workshop you will create ceramic pieces on the pottery wheel with the expert guidance of an experienced potter and work through the whole lifecycle of creating your clay artwork.

    Topics covered include (but are not limited to):

    • preparation of clay

    • centering

    • coning

    • trimming

    • bisque firing

    • glazing

    • glaze firing

    Each workshop takes place at the same time and day for 7 consecutive weeks. The final session (glazing) will be arranged within the class once all pieces are bisque fired.

    We keep the classes really small (only 6 spots per class) so that quality personal attention can be given to each participant.

    • Full pottery studio access to practice what you have learned "open studio".

  • Workshops take place at a fixed date and time on a weekly basis for 8 consecutive weeks. The final session (week 8) is glazing and will be arranged with participants within the group as pieces need to be bisque fired first.

    It is the responsibility of each participant to attend each session and make use of their "open studio" access.

    Please note; we cannot accommodate additional one-off classes for missed sessions.

7-Week pottery handbuilding workshop

$700 pp - 7 weeks - 2 hours

Participants will be introduced to the entire handbuilding process from raw clay to the final glazed piece. The first four weeks are devoted to learning the three basic forms of hand-building: pinch, coil, and slab-building. After that, focus will be given to individual projects developed by the students during weeks five and six using the techniques learned in the first part of the course. With these pieces, students will then learn how the pieces are prepped, fired, and glazed during the last session.

Each workshop has only 6 spaces to ensure quality individual attention can be given to each student.

The next handbuilding workshop will be held on:

  • Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm commencing March 5th 2025 (2/6 spaces left)

  • This is a 7 week long semester workshop course for individuals of all levels of experience. During this workshop you will create your pieces with the guidance of a tutor and work through the whole lifecycle of creating your artwork.

    Topics covered include (but are not limited to):

    • preparation of clay

    • pinch, coil and slab building techniques

    • under-glazing

    • bisque firing

    • glazing

    • glaze firing

    Each workshop takes place at the same time and day for 6 consecutive weeks. The final session (glazing) will be arranged within the class once all pieces are bisque fired.
